Harvester - From zero to hero!

Harvester, oh Harvester. How one horrendous experience put us off and now we have grown to love you...

Once upon a time, just a few years ago we went to Harvester with some work friends and were belittled and treated horribly by the staff when we mentioned we were vegan. I'll never forget the exact words "We don't cater for vegans here. You'll have to just try the salad bar". To which the waiter (who I believe was also in a managerial role) proceeded to make vegan themed jokes throughout serving our table for the duration of our stay. That's the short version of the story anyway!

Fast forward to 2018 and Harvester is a regular place we go to eat with a clearly labelled menu with vegan main meal dishes, sides, dessert and a VEGAN BREAKFAST. Yup, how wrong was that member of staff.

We live in the Welsh valleys so it's a bit of a trek for us to travel to 100% vegan cafes on a regular basis. So, somewhere like Harvester having vegan options like this, for us, it is a game changer. Five minutes down the road and we can eat there anytime of the day.

So, here are the current options. Everything Vegan has a (VE) after it on the menu.

Main Meals:

AUBERGINE & RED LENTIL TAGINE

Giant couscous cooked with apricots, raisins, coriander & red pepper. Topped with a Moroccan-inspired spiced stew, with flatbread and houmous

STUFFED RED PEPPER

Stuffed with sweet potato, black bean & quinoa chilli, with golden rice & beans and fri

Sides:

SAGE & ONION SEASONED FRIES

SWEET POTATO FRIES

GOLDEN RICE & BEANS

ROASTED BUTTERNUT SQUASH

CHARGRILLED TENDERSTEM BROCCOLI

Dessert:

COCONUT & BLACK CHERRY RICE PUDDING

Slowly cooked in coconut milk, served with raspberries in sauce

Breakfast:

THE HIPSTER BREAKFAST

Two hash browns, two vegan sausages, tomato, flat mushroom, spinach and smashed avocado, houmous and a toasted breakfast muffin

Harvester have more than redeemed themselves in our eyes and we can't wait to see what other vegan options they have in the pipeline.

After our bad experience, we didn't go to Harvester for a couple of years. But, after giving it a try when we saw them launch the new vegan options all the staff in our local Harvester have always been super friendly and helpful. So it just shows that one bad experience shouldn't put you off forever.
